Its summer time and many families are searching for activities to keep their children active and entertained. What about golf? Golf is a game that can be played by one or many and is the only sport that can be played all of your life. It is also the only sport that can be played by multiple generations. As a golfer, you can enjoy a round of golf with your grandparents and children at the same time! Golf courses have a variety of things of offer for a family outing. You can grab a bit to eat, have some fun warming up on the chipping green and driving range and then if you want, go play a round of golf.
I like to look at golf as the one multi-purpose tool that you can use throughout your life; business, pleasure, exercise, leisure, golf can fit into anywhere.
Why is the main perception of golf ‘elitist’ and how do we change it? Finding ways to “unlock” the secrets of the game of golf and showing people the enjoyment that can be found through playing golf in many different ways is the key to changing the perception and growing the game of golf. Statistics show that in the last 10 years there have been almost 50% more golf courses closing than opening. At the same time, places like Top Golf are seeing increased growth and popularity. Why the disconnect? Golf is a perfect sport to connect the lifestyles that emphasize the importance of healthy choices and integrating physical activity into everyday life.
Golf has the ability to cross generational divides and connect people of all ages and abilities. You can play in a formal setting or an informal setting. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. You don’t have to have fancy equipment to begin playing golf. Most places have equipment available to rent. As a newcomer or if you decide to bring your family, this is the perfect way to try a sport without a major initial investment.
Teaching people how they can improve their lives through the game of golf is my passion. As a young person golf helped me develop my strengths and I want to bring back to golf what golf brought to me. Changing the perception of golf to be that of an energetic and fun sport that is inclusive of everyone is a major step in the right direction.
