Over the weekend I had the opportunity to attend a PGA/USGA workshop on the rules of golf. It was a three day workshop with about a hundred attendees. Through the presentations, videos and Q&A opportunities, I was able to gain a deeper understanding about the rules, etiquette, decisions and definitions involved in the game. The presenters, Bill McCarthy, USGA, Larry Startzel, PGA, and David Price, PGA, were extremely knowledgeable and offered themselves as contacts for future questions about the rules.
There are 34 rules in the game of golf, however, each rule contains applications/scenarios, which are called decisions, within them that further clarify the rule. One aspect that was heavily focused on was the definitions of terminology within the game. It is important to understand the terminology being used in order to correctly apply the rule.
This was a great opportunity for me to refresh my knowledge on the rules and learn quite a few new things that will help me daily in my profession.
