In 2006 I started “ACES Golf Fun with Values” finding a fun way to teach the game of golf and make it grow. Many of the members because of old age were starting to die and something had to be done to grow the game of golf in a pleasant and fun way with the aim of forming better people.
In 2007, Jimena became the course ambassador for the same golf course that she was removed from in 2005.
In 2008 my wife was offered a position as a teacher at FWISD. My family made the move to Fort Worth and I went back and forth between Fort Worth and Mexico until 2012. My children Jimena, Jorge and Maria Jose entered Fossil Ridge. Jimena and Jorge made it on the varsity golf team and Maria Jose and Jorge were on the varsity swimming team. Jorge also became The “Homecoming King” breaking with the tradition that only the football players won.
In 2008 I met Carlos Guzman with The First Tee of Fort Worth and the director Kevin Long. Kevin taught me the curriculum and I told him what I was doing to grow the game of golf in Mexico and that I wanted to participate as a volunteer with The First Tee. I had met Terry Anton, who was a co-founder of SNAG (Starting New at Golf) in 2007 and was actively using his program in the courses I was teaching. The First Tee was also using this equipment so it was a perfect opportunity for me to contribute my knowledge and experience. I had the great opportunity to participate in the first class of the National School Program at W.J. Turner with Carlos Batista and Kevin Long. Since then I have become a certified life skills coach and enjoy coaching at every opportunity.
In 2013 I received a job offer to revitalize a Southern Oaks Golf Club in Burleson. My diverse knowledge of golf has allowed me to craft a long range vision that has been systematic in bringing the course up from 53rd to Top 5 in the Metroplex. The core values taught by The First Tee have been integral to my business and work philosophy for many years and I am proud to be an example for others on how they can find and build careers within the golf industry.
In 2015 I became a Grassroots Ambassador for GCSAA and had the opportunity to attend National Golf Day in Washington, D.C. and The First Tee Congressional Breakfast. I am attending again this year and look forward to advocating for the game of golf.
