Inspiration and innovation can come from many places. As a professional, understanding the value of continuing education, in all aspects of one’s career, is critical.
For myself, as a certified golf course superintendent, I find inspiration and innovation through my goals of being a life-long learner and advocate for all aspects of the game of golf. These goals lead me to play at many prestigious golf courses throughout the world, attend as many continuing education courses and golf conferences as I am able, volunteer in my community, be active in different golf organizations, and mentor others. During these opportunities I am able to gain first-hand knowledge of innovative techniques and problem solving solutions that I can then apply when/if needed.
Through these various activities I am always learning and looking for innovative techniques that I can bring back to my course and implement. Every time you have the opportunity to update and provide something innovative, it should be taken. We live in a fast paced world and being on the cutting edge is critical to remain competitive.
Learning how other cultures approach golf and business, experiencing other course’s standards of play, what they offer their members/guests, how they approach challenges, and how new and innovative techniques are applied, is invaluable information that can only be gained through actively seeking it out. With this information you can then approach tasks and challenges in your business in ways that others may have never thought possible.
Knowledge, innovation and motivation are formidable tools to arm yourself with. With these three you can approach and find solutions to any task and achieve things that others who are lacking these tools cannot.
