Creativity is a somewhat abstract concept that has immense value in both life and business. It’s the ability to allow your intelligence to have fun. We are living in a fast paced world where when creativity and innovation are almost necessities. Creativity involves the ability to identify patterns, make connections, perceive situations in new ways and generate solutions. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing. Here is the key! If you have ideas but don’t act on them, you are imaginative but not creative. Thinking is the ability to assess situations and then visualize possible resources and solutions, and producing is the ability to apply resources in innovative and effective ways to achieve goals.
As a certified golf course superintendent it is essential that I use my creativity every day to keep the golf course fresh, fun and challenging for members and guests. My creativity has allowed me to solve several challenges while finding significant cost savings because of my ability to use on-hand resources in innovative ways.
Creativity requires passion and commitment. In business it may require taking risks and stepping outside of the “box” to approach situations with a fresh perspective. Once you have let yourself embrace your creativity you will begin to see things through a different lens and open up a realm of new possibilities.
